Declan Fortier is a Law Clerk at Hanauer Law. He is a proud alum of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he studied Philosophy and Political Science. Declan is a current 2L at Northern Illinois University College of Law. He was a semi-finalist in the 2026 NIU COL 1L Closing Argument Competition and is involved in the NIU COL Trial Advocacy Society. Like his family members who were attorneys before him, Declan aspires to zealously advocate for his clients both in and out of the courtroom.
Declan’s primary role as a Law Clerk is conducting research involving complex criminal and family law issues to assist attorneys in the handling of their cases. Declan also assists with discovery review, drafting of legal documents such as FOIA requests, correspondence with opposing counsel, and any other administrative tasks the attorneys and paralegals at Hanauer Law may need performed.
Declan is from the Southside of Chicago and is a diehard Blackhawks fan. As a young skater, he was taught to “leave it all out there” every shift. Declan has carried that mentality with him ever since and applies it to every case he handles.
